Why Ayo should be Miss Apex Nigeria
Ayomide Comfort Agboola is a native of Ekiti state in Nigeria.
She’s a 19-year-old student of Agro-Economics in University of Abuja, Nigeria.
I met Ayo in high school. To say, “I know Ayo” wouldn’t be an absolutely
correct statement. I have known Ayo. I met her in SS2. For all I know, Ayo is
dependable. Ayo is someone who’d be there for me rather than be elsewhere. Most
recently was in August 2018, when I had so much alcohol at a friend’s place, I couldn’t
exactly tell which house was mine and which wasn’t. Distance may be a barrier
as they say, but never for Ayo, she was there the whole while on phone, all that
was vital to her was my safety. She never left me for a second, showing up at
my door very early the following morning and pleading with my parents to forgive
me, almost taking the blame. I don’t know how she did it, that issue was forgotten
at instant and never of spoken again.
I prefer to call Ayo, a “low-maintenance friend” a friend that
lets me be myself at any moment. A friend that’d chill with me even if N500 is
all I have. Thanks to her, I don’t have to fake or keep up to any imaginary
standards. She knows me home and abroad. She knows all of my strengths and
weaknesses.
Amongst all of Ayo’s traits, honesty is easily the most significant.
She’d often say, “Chisom, I love you. But, you fucked up big time.” She’s able
to tactfully tell me the truth, “Here’s what to do next time in a situation
like that” she'd say.
Even with my simple life, Ayo is able to blend in comfortably.
Whenever she’s around for weekend sleepovers, she goes like, “Sommie, whatever
you’re eating is what I’m eating. Don’t cook something different for me. It
doesn’t matter if it’s Igbo soup, i'll eat anything you give me."
Midst characteristics of a beautiful individual, Ayomide’s non-judgmental
approach is unmatchable. No matter how nasty the situation I’ve got myself into
may be, Ayo has a “right” way out of it. She’s ready to help me with money, love
or mental health difficulties.
Ayo laid the foundation on which I started to write on this
very blog. She’d lay next to me, ask what I’m writing next, she’d be first post
on her Whatsapp even before I do, write lengthy anonymous comments. My write-ups
may not be as good, but Ayo would hype it with her last breath.
This isn’t just about me, Ayomide has a vast network of
friends ranging from Kazzy, to Praise-el, Ire, Ifechukwu, Grace, Rita etc. the
list is endless.
Maybe I need to re-introduce myself, my name is Chisom Juanita
Mefor. Best friend to Ayomide Comfort Agboola. Our friendship is built on trust
and mutual respect. I don’t know the rest of the contestants but Ayo is the Queen
I know. I write well because of Ayo, I carry myself well, because of her. I’m a
lot more confident, because I look at her. I can’t remember when last I cared
to know what people said, Ayo taught me to step on stuff I used to trip on.
Ayo is an individual builder, she brings out the potential
that exists within each person, invariably making her a nation builder. Ayo’s
idea of Feminism is- Equity. Injustice to one, means injustice to all. She
believes everyone should be treated right and with respect, both rich, poor,
men and women alike, regardless of various factors such as socioeconomic status.
This means things like an individual’s freedom to make choices about their career,
lifestyle, relationship statuses without being unfairly criticized,
discriminated or restricted in their choices the opportunity to strive and work
towards career progression, and have equal opportunities to be considered for
senior positions in politics and workplace in general.
I’ve got over a thousand readers per blogpost, that’s a thousand
likes and comments for my Best Friend. All you need to do is click the link,
follow and comment, “yomi_fort” to make my dreams come true.
Have a Blessed Saturday!
I know Ayo, she's the one girl that got the most difficult guy in my cohort in Secondary school to fall for her. If you know Lex Luthor, then you will know that Ayo can win the heart of anyone. My vote is for her!
